At Pure Trek, our mission extends beyond the thrill of canyoning. We harness this excitement to support significant community projects. Historically, our efforts have included empowering local cleanups and, more recently, our ambitious goal to build an educational community center for local children and youth.
Each project we select aims to unify and uplift the community. Moreover, these initiatives do not seek to highlight our successes but rather to spotlight the community’s strength and resilience. Therefore, let’s explore the heart of our initiatives and discover the impact we’re creating together.
Pure Trek’s Environmental and Community Initiatives
Environmental stewardship guides us at Pure Trek. Over the years, we’ve organized numerous cleanup campaigns along rivers and lakes, engaging our team and local volunteers to preserve our surroundings’ natural beauty. Importantly, these efforts benefit the ecosystem and foster a strong sense of pride and responsibility within the community.
Furthermore, our staff, volunteers, and community members play a crucial role in these transformative efforts. Their active participation helps shift our collective mindset, encouraging us not only to enhance our environment’s visual appeal but also to adopt more sustainable practices in waste management and consumption.
Finally, residing in one of Costa Rica’s top tourist destinations presents unique environmental challenges. Consequently, we are committed to ensuring that future generations can marvel at the majesty of the Arenal Volcano and that our children inherit a pristine and flourishing environment.
Copa Cuaderno: Empowering Youth Amid Challenges
Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, initiatives like Copa Cuaderno have temporarily paused. Although Pure Trek is no longer directly involved in its execution, Copa Cuaderno continues to be a cornerstone of our community impact efforts, playing a vital role in our mission. Initially spearheaded by four friends, including members from Pure Trek, Copa Cuaderno was a cherished tradition. It featured a night of indoor soccer where the entry fee was school supplies, especially new notebooks. Generous contributors also made monetary donations, which we used to purchase additional notebooks. After the event, we surveyed all local schools and colleges to determine their needs and distributed the supplies accordingly.
Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, activities like our river and lake clean-ups were also put on hold. Previously, our team members would reach out to local businesses to organize clean-up efforts post-Holy Week. This period typically saw increased littering around the Arenal Reservoir and its surrounding areas, which we diligently addressed.
Organic garden: From Garden to Table
Everything grown in our organic garden, from crisp lettuce and kale to cilantro, parsley, hot peppers, tomatoes, and bell peppers, makes its way into the meals we serve. These fresh ingredients enhance our dishes not just with flavor but also showcase our commitment to freshness and quality. By controlling this aspect of our food supply, we ensure that every meal is not only delicious but also a testament to our dedication to environmental stewardship.

The Huellas Festival, reflecting on its rich history since its inception in 2007, has continuously supported social projects. Originally founded to finance various initiatives, the festival shifted its focus in 2018 to exclusively fund the creation of a community library by collecting books and other resources.
